Exodus 20:12-17
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
The final seven commandments deal with our relationship with other humans. Besides the fourth commandment, the other commandments are stated in the negative (i.e. You shall not…) To expand your understanding of what these commandments are saying, take time to rewrite the last six, making them positive instead. (For example, one way to rewrite the second commandment to put it in the positive would be “You shall use God’s name in ways that are respectful, giving him the honor he deserves.”)

God in heaven,
guide us and protect us.
We so often believe we can save ourselves
and we always end in failure.
Lead us with your love away from harm
and guide us on the right path.
May your Spirit inspire the Church
and make us an instrument of your love and guidance.
Thank you for your care for us today and always.
Amen
